River Cities Chapter News - Summer 2008
River Cities Chapter of Medical Assistants (RCCMA) is moving full steam ahead. We are taking our education to our members up the Columbia River, down the Columbia River and up the Willamette River.
We have had some great education and have more to come. This past Saturday, June 14, 2008 had us sitting up in our seats and thinking about wrinkles, ageing, looking better and younger. We had Natalie Harley, administrator and Patricia Gravenites, CMA of the VanderVeer Center in Portland come speak to us about The Art & Science of Image Enhancement. We learned quite a bit about the available treatments and the difference between a medical Aesthetic practice and “medspa”, spa, “laser clinic” among other things. Natalie spoke about the medical part of the treatments while Patricia spoke of her role as the medical assistant. I personally was impressed at the degree in which the medical assistants in this practice work independently under the auspices of the doctor.
Our journey down the Columbia River will be taking us to Astoria on September 13, 2008. We will have more information posted shortly regarding the topic and location.
Come join us as we take travel up the Columbia River to The Dalles. We have scheduled an educational event at Mid-Columbia Medical Center in The Dalles on Saturday October 11, 2008. Topic will be on breast health as October is Breast Health Awareness month. Speakers will be announced at a later date.
Our shortest jaunt will be to Southwest Portland on November 1st at the OMA headquarters for our 2nd Annual Job Fair/ Membership Drive. CEU’s will be available to attendees but most important will be the opportunity to meet and possibly interview with prospective employers. Bring your resume and be prepared to interview. We have commitments from several of the larger medical groups in our area to participate… opportunity, opportunity, and more opportunity abound and all you have to do is take advantage of it.
The very next week we travel to Clackamas for the Oregon Society of Medical Assistants (OSMA) Fall Quarterly. It is being held on Saturday November 8, 2008 at The Courtyard at the Marriott on Sunnybrook Rd. The topic will be on Alzheimers.
We are excited and looking forward to the upcoming events. We hope that you will join us and support us and the members in these out lying areas.
